With Spring Day, Arbor Week, Recycling Day (16 Sep) and Recycling Week (12 – 17 September) taking place this month, we focus on all the exciting initiatives that lighten the load on Mother Earth. The Constantia Village actively promotes environmentally-friendly retail practices in more ways than one. We recently installed one of the country’s largest rooftop solar plants. This reduces the centre’s energy consumption by almost 20%! What’s more, we make use of drip irrigation, as opposed to spray irrigation, which saves an immense amount of water.

But it doesn’t end there! Did you know that The Constantia Village has a recycling depot behind Exclusive Books? It’s not just for the use of our stores, but is open to the public too. Drop off your recyclables any day of the week and our friendly staff will take it from there.

You might have heard of the Constantia Greenbelt. Founded in 1998 by Brian Ratcliff, this exciting initiative is solely run by volunteers who dedicate their time and energy without expecting any reward. The money collected every month through the centre’s glass and paper recycling goes directly to Constantia Greenbelt. “These contributions are a vital income, which goes to capital costs, which are responsible for the maintenance,” says Ratcliff.

Not-to-be-missed Earth-friendly showcase

One more initiative that proves The Constantia Village is all about organic living and rediscovering natural living, is our Earth-friendly showcase. Taking place from Monday 26 September until Sunday 2 October, we will have four breathtaking displays of environmentally friendly products. Expect to see awe-inspiring hanging installations, the finest outdoor furniture, beautiful glassware, earth-loving baskets, eco-friendly bath products, and the list goes on.

Aren’t you proud to be part of The Constantia Village community?

See you at the showcase!

Hi there, I love the organic garden at Constantia Village. As a matter of interest, what happens to the produce from the garden?
    Thanks and regards

      Hi Janine,

We are so glad that you love it. You will be able to read in the article that all our produce gets donated to the The Haven Night Shelter in Wynberg.

      Kind regards
      The Constantia Village team
